Happy New (retirement) Life

Playing along with Winnie & Walter featuring Essentials by Ellen again for the Day 3 challenge - Backgrounds.

Here is my card that I made for a dear friend that will be retiring from a 37 year "stint" at a National airline.  Her name is Margaret and I wanted to create my background with Julie's organic feel daisy (for the french Marguerite) floral from Bohemian Garden and I paired a leaf from Winnie & Walter's
Anna's Flora set.

I started by blending some Salty Ocean distress ink onto a bristol card and then sprayed with water and blotted up some of the water droplets.  When completely dried, I stamped the daisy in Versamark ink and white heat embossed, then the same with the leaf shape.  I had seen Jennifer McGuire's video with removing DI's from a stamped floral (Julie's Mondo Hydrangea) and immediately fell in love with this technique and have finally been able to give this a try.  I was not sure it would work on bristol card, but it did!  Probably not as well as it would on W/C card, but it was a great experiment!
For the sentiment, I white heat embossed three words from the
W&W set "The Big, the Bold and the Happy".  So many great words in the set to create for different occasions!  As an afterthought, I repeated the spongeing and heat embossing and ink lifting on a scrap of bristol and created two more leaves to flank the sentiment.
Thanks for peeking in and have a great day!

  2. The technique is so fun, and it looks as if it worked the charm on Bristol, Chriss! LOve the dreamy blue, and I'm sure Margaret will, too ... I did not know that Marguerite meant daisy! I have a ton of distant cousins with that name - yes, all from my cherished French Canadian family tree! Such a beautiful card, my friend! xx
