Old School Cool

Happy Saturday everyone!

There has been a lot of high temperatures going on around here, and normal for Austin, but my friends and family in the "Great White North" have been experiencing lots of the same. Unusual for them and not all have air conditioned homes like here in the south.  They have been using these "old school" wonders.
  I was inspired by this darling card from Meghan on her Little Pink Bikes blog and I made a few of my own version to mail up north.

I used a Hero Arts sentiment (perfect for this situation), dollar stamp fan image from Michaels and a Basic Grey popsicle image.  The paper is SEI.

City Crafter challenge "Paris"

Good morning all. Friday already! Where did this week go?

I had time to finally make a card for the City Crafter's challenge found here. The challenge is to incorporate a Paris theme. I don't usually do "shabby" cards, but they sure have been surfacing a lot lately and some of you are oh, so talented with presenting such a beautiful creation, so here is my very modest version and try at a shabby.

I wanted to use this "Chocolat" line of papers from SEI that encompass the Paris theme quite well and I had a go at making a ribbon rose, my first!

I gathered a folded length of this rose coloured ribbon and just shaped it into a spiral and placed a couple of glue dots on the back to secure in place. The center has a Webster's glass chocolate coloured sparkle button that I thought was a perfect tie in to the other chocolate elements on the card front. The sentiments (Mon Amie and Merci) are stamped in a chocolate ink and I added some little pearls and tucked an Eiffel Tower charm in between the rose and main sentiment.

The border at the bottom was created with an EK Success slim punch with a FDL pattern. I added some larger pearls to the bottom corner and all of the paper edges are sponged with brown ink.

That's my first Shabby with my first ribbon rose. I need to practice on both of these techniques!

Mojo Birthday

Another Mojo Monday contest!  I was able to sit down last night and make a card for Julee's Mojo sketch challenge.  This is her 94th !  To make this card, I selected the papers that I wanted to work with, my much neglected SEI Black Orchid DP.  I started with the layered background panel that I put through the CB with the botanical bg that I so love.  I made my panel really easily with a rectangle that I cut from the pretty black and white floral and double mounted with the same lime green and a coral colour (both from the same SEI pack).  The sentiment is from Verve and I stamped that with Memento Tux. black and used a Label Nestability die to cut it out and then mounted that on the coral colour and hand trimmed that.  The two border panel under neath are both made with punches and layered with more coral and one has this elegant lace over it.  The flower is a Prima and the center is a black fancy brad with white floral outlines (hard to see from the photo) and I finished off with adding some clear rhinestones to some of the centers of the de-bossed background panel because, after all, this is supposed to have some Mojo going on!

Special friend tea card/ a 2 challenge card!

My second post today, I know, I will try to be more regular, but this was one challenge that I could not pass up!   It was issued on Nichole Heady's "Capture the Moment" blog (owner of Papertrey Ink stamps) and it really spoke to me.  There are several photo's that the designer team each used as inspiration to create something.  Nichole passed on the challenge to her readers, so here is mine!  I chose Heather's photo (love the greens and blues and the little cup of tea) and created a card with the best little teapot image set and sentiments that I have seen.  My colours are a little darker than the inspiration piece, but I love these richer tones.  I was able to use the cute "Tea for Two" set released in April from Papertrey INK and the Itty Bitty Dots 8" X 8" paper pack.  Lovely colours in the package!  I also paired it with another paper pack I have had for a little while from SEI, "Black Orchid"  For this card, I stamped the teapot onto the SEI paper that has a hint of a mini diamond bg on the paper.  It reminded me of an enameled teapot.  I have been hoarding this May Arts ribbon for a very long time and actually did use it on a Mother's Day card in a previous post, but today I layered 3 strands of MS baker's twine (another hoarded product)in the center of the tiny spring green daisies.  Although I love this ribbon's design, I do find the green a little, well, green.  The green isn't so bad with the added twine imho ;)   I also used the twine with a few buttons that I had in my stash (not a trendy crafter's button stash, just some buttons that have fallen off of clothes over the last 30 years and I think the turquoise one was from a shirt in the early 80's, geesh I am such a hoarder)  Well, here's the card.  I also used a sketch layout from Jen del Muro's blog i{heart}to stamp SFYTT  Hope you like it.  I had such a fun time creating this!
