Another Friday...where did the week go?!
I made another card for Darnell's NBUS challenge. These cards are going out to a couple of my friends up north, in Montreal. They have both retired this year, Anne in May and Devon in February...I know, how late am I in getting this to her! Better late than never.
Well, I decided to use this sweet little image from Stamavie by Tina Wenke that I have had in my stash for a number of years. I did use this once or twice before, so this is not my NBUS item, but the sentiments are! I had this brand new set from SU, don't know what year, but I cut and mounted on the wood blocks this afternoon. Yes, that's before SU had the pre cut rubber. Here is a pic of the cut out bits.
I water-coloured on an acrylic block (the grid side...see the defined squares) and laid a card front over top, letting the inks do the special magic thing and let dry, then stamped the mouse in the hammock image over top in PTI smokey grey. I added some more inks with an aqua painter to the flowers, Copic marker on the leaves and stems and Spica sparkly pen on the bees. I stamped some of the SU sentiments in the same grey onto white card stock and used my trusty SU window punch.
These are now out in the mail to a couple of girlfriends for well deserved retirements!
Thanks for taking a peek!
Chriss
It never occurred to me until I read your post that there may already be young stampers coming up who will never know about the agony of cutting those darn rubbers to mount on the wood. I must have struggled for eight years with a cheesy pair of scissors, because I was just too cheap to spend my crafting budget on fancy scissors! What a dope I am sometimes! That thing-a-ma-jig, too! I made cards for 10 years before I got one of those and I just cringe at how crooked my cards must have been!
ReplyDeleteSorry, Chriss, I went off on a tangent there. Your two cards are just beautiful! Your friends will treasure them and forgive their lateness! I love the colors you were able to achieve with the watercoloring on acrylic and I love that you captured the grid pattern! Mr. Mouse lounging in the hammock is perfect for a retirement stamp. Both of these layouts make great card sketches!
Thank you for linking again to my NBUS Challenge! Have a great Father's Day weekend! Hugs, Darnell
What a pretty card for the NBUS challenge! I have a whole pile of NBUS too and so I joined this fun challenge. I am now a follower of your blog and would love it if you visited my blog and became a follower too. http://karenskreativekards.blogspot.com/
